Important Dates for Forest Ridge

Thanks to Lorraine Hofheinz, our resident news gatherer and emailer extraordinare, I have some important dates to pass along to you.  The big one is NOVEMBER 4th, Election Day.  Early voting makes the most sense, Bart (my husband), Kyle (our son) and I voted last week and had a very pleasant experience at the library on Griffin Rd. in Davie.  We got sample ballots on line and marked them ahead of time, which helped a lot.    I hear that the shortest lines are between between 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.   We went later on in the afternoon and we waiting about 30 minutes to get into the library to vote.

The Duffy’s at 9622 Ridgeside Court are up to their old tricks again.  They have created a monstrosity out of their home and they have invited you to visit The Dungeon of Darkness on Friday, OCTOBER 31st which just happens to be Halloween Night.  I had the priviledge of getting a preview of some of the displays earlier this fall and I promise you won’t be disappointed.  I recommend that you get their early and if you must drive, carpool, as parking can become a problem.

The annual Lighting of the Holiday Lights, will take place at the statue on Sunday, NOVEMBER 30th at dusk.  Look for signs announcing the correct time.  This event kicks off the holiday season for Forest Ridge residents.  You may have already noticed Tom Bardash stringing the lights at the entrance of our community.  This year the event will feature a children’s choir, special guest appearances, and complimentary cookies from the Forest Ridge Women’s Club.   This is an event that always brings joy to my heart.  There is something magical about the way our community looks during the holidays and this is a great time to enjoy it with your family and friends.

Sunday, NOVEMBER 20th, the Old Orchard/Southern Orchard HOA meeting will be held and the Master HOA meeting will be held on Tuesday, NOVEMBER 25th.  Look for signs in the community for time and place.

Saturday, DECEMBER 6th, is the date for the 9th Annual Holly Day Parade and Fair.  You can get all the information about the event at www.hollydayparade.com.  As a member of the parade committee I can tell you that this year the event will be better than ever.  All residents are welcome to participate, we are looking for clowns, children to throw beads, entertainment, beauty queens or VIP’s, small children in costume, old fashioned or unique vehicles, convertibles for the celebrities, sponsors and donations of all kinds.  If you are interested in making a donation or becoming a sponsor please contact me (Patti Reid, (954) 854-6310 OR Linda Lee Granger (954) 475-8592.

December always brings out the best in people and our residents are no exception.  There will be Christmas Caroling (date/time to be announced) and a Holiday Decorating Contest.  So, get ready for another wonderful holiday season in Forest Ridge and let us know if you have some special news you would like me to share with EVERYONE.

VOTE EARLY… FOR A CHANGE

Forest Ridge residents can make their lives a lot easier and less stressful by going to the voting polls early in this election.  Early voting begins today, October 20, 2008.  Look here for a list of times and places to vote.

This year the process of completing a 4 page voting ballot will take more time than ever.  Each completed ballot will be scanned.  Even if you do not vote for all issues or candidates, your entire ballot must be scanned.   There will only be one scanner at each voting location and the scanner can only hold 700 pages before it is full and must be refreshed. I know that time is valuable, however, there has never been a more important use of time than voting in a Presidential election, especially this year.  Whether or not it takes you 15 minutes or 1 hour to vote, it will be worth it.  Your country is counting on you!

Forest Ridge is a “No Solicitation” Neighborhood

How many of you have come home from work to find coupons for pizza, housecleaning services, painting, driveway sealing, etc. hanging on your front door or on your mailbox?

I am sure it gives you the same creepy feeling that I get when I realize that someone has trespassed on my property.  Since Forest Ridge is a “No Solicitation” neighborhood with posted signs, it is within your right to contact the company and let them know that you will report them to the police if they continue to solicit in Forest Ridge.

I have stopped many a solicitor in their tracks in Forest Ridge, even those who I have seen driving through Forest Ridge, to let them know that they are trespassing.  Most of them are not aware, since they are hired by the company who is passing out the coupons.  However, I often wonder how many of them are legitimate and if their real business is to find out who is home and who is not.

With the downturn in the economy, I am certain that we will see more companies utilizing solicitors to drum up business.  Since soliciting is not allowed in our neighborhood,  Forest Ridge does provide a vehicle in which the businesses can advertise, it is called the Forest Ridge Register, a quarterly newspaper supported by residents and local businesses.

It’s up to you and me to keep our neighborhood free from unwanted “visitors”.  I will even contact the businesses myself, if you let me know who has been at your door uninvited.  Just respond to this blog and I’ll do the work for you.

Welcome to my blog

Greetings Residents,

Thank you for stopping by.  This project called the ForestRidgeVoice has been a dream of mine for many years, long before anyone ever heard of a blog.  This site will be designed for the Forest Ridge residents and those who may be interested in Forest Ridge.  It will not only contain real estate information, it will contain information that will be helpful on a daily basis to the residents.

My plans include free classified ads, school news, public safety issues affecting Forest Ridge, a list of preferred vendors and much more.  I’m still working on getting the kinks worked out but I feel that this labor of love will soon become the place all Forest Ridge residents will go to get their community news.

So, please, let me know what you would like to see on this site by responding to this blog.  I look forward to hearing from you.
