What Will The New Year Bring??

It’s Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008 and I’m at my desk pondering what kind of year 2009 will be for all of us.  Personally, I am looking forward to it with much anticipation, like a child waiting to open a present.  I’m wondering if it will be what I have asked for, like the pony I always wanted, or will it be what I need like a new pair of sneakers?

The best present I ever received as a child was a blue Murray bicycle.  It wasn’t the pony I asked for, and little did I know it’s value until I learned to how to ride it.  It was a very ordinary bike but, boy oh boy, it sure did take me places I’d never been before.  What made the bike so special was that there were no limits.  I could hope on it first thing in the morning and explore my universe.

I think I’ll approach 2009 the same way.  I don’t know the road that lies ahead of me, so I’m going to explore the many possibilities that exist; those that I would have never known about if it wasn’t for the bicycle that I didn’t ask for and found out later that it was exactly what I needed.

Christmas Caroling and Decoration Contest in Forest Ridge

The Forest Ridge Woman’s Club is at it again.  Their Annual Caroling Extravaganza will take place on Sunday evening, December 21, 2008 throughout the Forest Ridge community.  These ladies have plenty to sing about; they are an enthusiastic bunch who share a common bond of friendship and sisterhood.  These talented women come from all walks of life, each with their own unique personalities.  I am happy to say that I am a member of this club which is open to all women in Forest Ridge.

Look out your window on Sunday and you might just see this merry group caroling in front of your home.

By the way, I just had to share this great photo of one of the homes being considered in the Decoration Contest.  It’s located on Sycamore Court in the Old Orchard subdivision in Forest Ridge.

Deck the Walls in Forest Ridge

If you haven’t had the opportunity to see the beautiful light display at the entrance of the Forest Ridge community in Davie, Florida I recommend you take a drive by soon.  Forest Ridge is outlined by a beautiful rustic brick wall and graceful 200 year old oak trees; they are aglow with thousands of shimmering lights.  Driving through the entrance of Forest Ridge (located just south of Nova Drive on Pine Island Road) feels like you are entering a Fairy Land.

Many of the residents have also put there best foot forward in decorating their homes for the holidays, perhaps in hope of winning the title of the Best Decorated Home, awarded by the Forest Ridge Woman’s Club on December 19th during their Annual Christmas Caroling Event.

The holidays are a lot of fun in Forest Ridge.  For more information about the Annual Holly Day Parade and associated events go to www.hollydayparade.com.

Happy Holidays!

Don’t Let Your Guard Down

I just received word from one of our residents that a car was stolen from their driveway in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 30th.  It was a 2008 Tahoe belonging to the residents daughter in law who lives in Tampa.  She reports “The car was backed into the driveway facing out.  The police advised that this is the easiest way to take an automobile…easy access to hood, battery and putting the auto on a truck.  Their car was locked and armed – they also have ONSTAR; but by the time we realized the car was gone, ONSTAR couldn’t track it.”

Over the past few years Forest Ridge has been hit by car thieves a number of times.  Many of us don’t use our garage to park our cars and we carelessly leave valuables such as cellphones, laptops, and wallets in plain view.  I have been known to leave my purse in my car accidently; but I have since changed my ways.

My suggestion is simple.  If you park your car in the driveway, use your garage lights to illuminate it.  It might cost a few more dollars on your electric bill but it’s worth it to know that you are doing all you can to protect your car.  The police have advised us that Forest Ridge is no more a victim to this type of crime than any other neighborhood; even those that are gated.

If you have any other suggestions I would love to hear about them and I’ll spread the word if you have any other type of problem you have encountered in Forest Ridge.  Being informed is a good way to stay safe.
